Alpine Elementary is pleased to announce its Chinese Dual Language Immersion Program. We are currently completing our third year. Applications for incoming 1st graders for the 2015-2016 school year will be available online after the orientation meeting to be held on January 27, 2015. The deadline to turn in applications to the school office will be February 27, 2015.
WHY LANGUAGE IMMERSION?
More than forty years of research consistently documents the power of immersion programs to help students attain high levels of second language proficiency.
- Long Term Second Language Skills, Increased Cultural Sensitivity
- Enhanced Cognitive Skills, Improved Performance on Standardized Tests
WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?
The immersion program seeks to enroll next year’s 1st grade students of varying backgrounds and all abilities. Students living within an immersion school’s boundaries, as well as out-of-area students are welcome to apply.
Participation in the Utah Dual Language Immersion program is considered to be a comprehensive educational experience. Beginning in the first grade, paired English and target language teachers collaborate to support student mastery of both the core content standards and target language skills in a full day program. It is our expectation that students who participate in the Utah Dual Language Immersion program participate fully in the school academic day and its prescribed instructional design.
