Chinese Immersion Program Information

Alpine Elementary is a Chinese Immersion school. Students enter the Chinese
Immersion program in first grade. We do accept transfer students from other
Chinese Immersion programs if space is available. There will be an orientation
meeting on February 24, 2018, 6:00 – 7:00 pm in our library for all parents whose
children are currently in kindergarten and want to make application for the first
grade Chinese Immersion program for the 2018-19 school year. Applications will be
available January 8, 2018 online at http://alpineschools.org/dual-immersion/.

WHY LANGUAGE IMMERSION?
More than forty years of research consistently documents the power of immersion
programs to help students attain high levels of second language proficiency.

PROVEN BENEFITS
– Long Term Second Language Skills, Increased Cultural Sensitivity
– Enhanced Cognitive Skills, Improved Performance on Standardized Tests

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?
The immersion program seeks to enroll next year’s 1st grade students of varying
backgrounds and all abilities. Students living within an immersion school’s
boundaries, as well as out-of- area students are welcome to apply.
Participation in the Utah Dual Language Immersion program is considered to be a
comprehensive educational experience. Beginning in the first grade, paired English
and target language teachers collaborate to support student mastery of both the
core content standards and target language skills in a full day program. It is our
expectation that students who participate in the Utah Dual Language Immersion
program participate fully in the school academic day and its prescribed instructional
design.
