Our incredible Librarian, Paula Ruesch, sends the following message about the February 1 – 14 online Book Fair:

We’re excited to celebrate the love of reading with our students in February! We hope you’ll join us by reading with your student and helping them complete the fun reading bingo activity they’ll be bringing home this week (also attached to this email). Students who return their bingo card to the library before February 20th will receive a prize.

We also hope you’ll support our Online Book Fair, February 1st – Feb 14th.

We are so excited to host Alpine Elementary’s Second Annual Chinese Lantern Festival, coming up the week of Feb. 22nd! This year’s Festival will look a little different, but we have created a fun lineup of activities that we believe all students will enjoy. All students (not just those in Chinese Immersion) will bring home a flyer on Feb. 5th with details to make the lanterns. Lanterns will be due back to their classrooms by Feb. 19th. The lanterns will be hung the morning of Feb. 22nd and students will take a tour of the lanterns by individual classes.

The Chinese Lantern Festival will kick off with the Chinese Immersion classes performing their Chinese New Year concert, only this time the classes will be recorded and links will be sent out for viewing. The entire week will be filled with fun Chinese New Year activities in individual classes, as well as in our specialty classes.

We are looking for parent volunteers who would be willing to come to the school Monday, Feb. 22nd to help hang lanterns, and also those who would be willing to help take down the lanterns the afternoon of Feb. 24th. Please contact Suzanne Campbell at 801-635-7899 to help. And just like last year, the class with the most lanterns turned in wins a pizza party! Happy Chinese New Year everybody!

The PTA will be having a meeting this Tuesday, the 2nd at 9:15 in the teacher’s lounge.  We would like to invite anyone that is interested in helping at our school to come. We will be voting on a few things including raising our budget to donate money towards a new digital sign for Alpine Elementary, and voting in our nominating committee. We will also be discussing upcoming events. We would love to have you come!

Great news! We have decided to extend our deadline for our membership drive to February 4th. We have had such a great response that we want to give even more people the opportunity to join in our drawing if you haven’t had the chance yet. All you have to do is go to this link, https://alpineelementary.memberhub.store/store , become a member of the PTA for Alpine Elementary, and your name will be entered into our drawings. We will be drawing one PTA member’s name each morning this week during morning announcements at the Alpine Elementary, for some great prizes, all of which were donated!

Alpine Elementary is having a Crumbl Cookie School Fundraiser Thursday Feb. 4th, from 8am-10pm. This will only be at the LEHI TRAVERSE PKWY location. Come in and mention Alpine Elementary and 50% of the proceeds will come back to our school. If you are ordering online enter Alpine in the name line. Thank you for your support!

Many of you may be wondering why we have not been putting messages for the past three months on the reader board in front of our school. In October, a vandal or vandals threw a pumpkin through our reader board; consequently, we have not been able to use our existing reader board. Since that time, we have been exploring options of installing an electronic reader board in front of the school. Once we determined we had the money to purchase a reader board, we have been waiting on the City of Alpine to change a sign ordinance that was enacted after Mountainville Academy installed their colored reader board on Main Street. There were complaints about the size and brightness of their new reader board from local residents. But the City of Alpine recently amended their sign ordinance and we are working with a sign company to install a new electronic reader board while following city’s size and hours of operation guidelines. We are probably still two months out before we will have the project completed, but I wanted to give our parents an update.

Do I shake hands or hug someone that I know well at a social gathering during a pandemic? That is the question I have asked myself as Laura and I attended a memorial service (family only) and a wedding reception on the past two Saturdays. Basically, I just let the other person make the first move unless it is one of our children. The perplexities in life that a pandemic creates!
