School Information
Minimal Day information
Friday, December 16th is a minimal day for students. Students will arrive at school at the normal time (9:15) but they will be dismissed at 12:45. Breakfast and lunch will be provided as normal.

Please Talk with your Students
One of our focusses this year has been surrounding kindness and respect forward each other, including adults. I would like to solicit your help in joining us by speaking openly and explicitly with your students regarding these two traits. We have fantastic kids at our school but consistent reminders for everyone is very useful, especially from those that they love and respect. I see constant, everyday acts of kindness and respect at school but I also see instances of disrespectful and negative behavior that should have no place in any setting. We truly love your students and want them to not only succeed academically, but more importantly, in the areas of kindness and respect. Please contact me if you have any concerns or questions.

Candlelight School Coin Drive
We wanted to give you a final update on our coin drive. We ended up raising $8500 for the school. I received a very sweet letter of appreciation from Fred Afwai and the Candlelight School. I have attached this letter to this email as well as some pictures they sent of some students.

Reflections is a national PTA program and it gives students the chance to submit art in one or all of the available arts categories: Dance Choreography, Film Production, Literature, Music Composition, Photography, and Visual Arts.  The theme for this year is Show your Voice!  Submissions need to be sent electronically here: https://www.utahpta.org/ref (this is also where instructions and rules are found) by October 19th.

Red Ribbon Week
Our students and staff will be participating in our annual Red Ribbon Week, October 18 – 21. We are grateful to one of our parents, Andrew Young, and the fantastic videos he produces that our students will watch each day this week. The focus of the week is for students to learn how to say no to drugs and alcohol. Ask your students what they learned at school each day this week. The most powerful conversations about making safe and correct choices about drugs and alcohol happen at home.  Tuesday will be hat day, Wednesday will be crazy hair day, Thursday will be sports jersey day, and Friday will be wear red or camo day.

Magic Night
We are so excited for the great family fun nights our PTA is putting together.  We are having Jason Fun, magician extraordinaire, come perform for us on October 20th at 6:30 PM.  This is a free event for the entire family.  Please see the attached flyer and come enjoy a magical night.

Kona Ice Day
Our first spirit day of the year will be October 21st from 3:15-5:15 PM.  Come grab Kona Ice right in front of the school.  A portion of your purchase will come back to the PTA and will be used for field trips.  Field trips are currently funded mostly by the $25 donations teachers ask for at the beginning of the year.  This will be a way to help fund more field trips for the students throughout the year.   Come grab your Kona Ice right as school gets out or come back a little later.  If it is really cold that day (below 50 degrees), they will be serving hot cocoa and hot apple cider.  Prices are included in the flyer below.

Community Bond Presentation
If you have any questions about the upcoming school district bond or you want to learn more about it, please feel free to attend one of the upcoming education sessions.  The closest one to us will be held October 18th at 6:30 PM at American Fork High School in the auditorium.

PTA Meeting
Our next PTA meeting is October 25th at 9:30 AM.

School Information

Counseling Newsletter
Please see the attached Counseling Newsletter for the month of October.

Reflections-See below for details
I would just like to encourage you to help your students with a Reflection entry. Hopefully, you have all noticed a reduction in the homework for your students. One benefit that can be had with this homework policy is that you might have a bit more time to do things like a Reflection entry. I know life is busy but the Reflections program is something that your children remember for years to come. Please remember that entries are due by October 13th.

Red Ribbon Week Coming Up
We have our annual Red Ribbon Week coming up Oct 18-21. I had some parents ask to have a “heads-up” on when the dress up days will be. So, there will be more information coming but we wanted to let you know that on Tuesday of that week it will be hat day, Wednesday will be crazy hair day, Thursday will be sports jersey day, and Friday will be wear red or camo day. Hope that helps those who wanted to know early.

We’re so excited for the Battle of the Books competition this year and have more students participating than ever before! It’s going to be a great year of reading!

Students who have read at least three books on their reading list by December will be invited to a pizza party in the library. Thanks for encouraging your students to read every day. We want to order A LOT of pizza for our readers 🙂

Our next PTA meeting is Oct 25th from 9:30-10:30 AM in the teacher’s lounge.  We would love to have you there!
